African States Expand Exports of Cocoa Beans to Russia
Over 11 months of the past year, cocoa beans import to Russia grew by more than 21% and amounted to 59.6 t in physical terms or by more than 22.5% amounting to USD 158.7 million in monetary terms, as SeaNews agency reports. Almost all cocoa beans were shipped from Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana and Ecuador.
Imports of pure cocoa powder amounted to almost 52,000 t (growing by 0.4%) or to USD 98.4 million (decreased by 2.5%). The largest shipments came from Malaysia, Germany and Indonesia. 42,500 t (1.8% less) of cocoa mass was imported amounting to USD 146 million (0.1% more). Most of the coca mass was shipped from Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
At the same time, Malaysia and Indonesia are the main suppliers of cocoa butter to Russia. Over 11 months of the past year, imports of cocoa butter to Russia decreased by 0.9% in physical terms and amounted to 33,800 t. In monetary terms, it went down by 3.4% and reached USD 197.3 million.
In general, imports of cocoa and cocoa products increased by 5% and reached 300,000 t between January and November last year. In monetary terms, shipments grew by 4.8% and amounted to USD 1.1 billion. Earlier, it was also reported that imports from non–CIS countries increased by 4%.
