International Codes to Be Used for Russian Marking System
Russia intends to allow overseas companies to use international identifier codes for product descriptions in the Russian track & trace system, according to the message from the press centre of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, following the results of a meeting between Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Yevtukhov and Christian Dior representatives.
According to the Deputy Minister, the proposed procedure looks as follows: if a company is already a member of the international GS1 association, it will not have to register as a member of the Russian GS1 RUS system to work with the Russian marking system (it can pull data from the European system).
The majority of all market participants globally are members of the international GS1 association (in charge of maintaining global standards and bar coding) and use GS1 barcodes for product descriptions. GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is an international identifier for trade items, developed and supported by GS1.
Russia’s new requirements for mandatory marking of perfumes and eau de toilette will become effective on October 1. The key principles and processes are unified as much as possible for all groups of products that are subject to marking. The same data matrix code is used for those product categories.
The Russian legislation currently does not have a procedure for postponing the date of mandatory marking requirements coming into effect for any given company. As previously reported, the Russian fashion market is projected to expand its online sector.
