Morocco and Turkey May Expand Imports of Food Products in Russia

Vegetables, fruit and seafood from China, the core of food imports from the country to Russia, may be replaced by shipments from Morocco and Turkey, TASS reports citing Dmitriy Vostrikov, Head of Ruspodsoyuz. According to him, China is the largest vegetable importer today.

Over 11 months of the past year, more than 453,000 t of vegetables worth about USD 370 million was imported from China. The second largest vegetable importer is Israel with its 139,000 t worth USD 135 million, then follows Turkey with 136,000 t of imported vegetables worth USD 148 million.

It is noted that further price dynamics concerning these products will depend on the supply and demand balance. Today, the primary factor that keeps prices down is still the comparatively low consumer purchasing power.

Since 9 January, Russia has imposed temporary restrictions on imports of aquaculture products from China, which was the primary import product of fish goods. We would also like to remind you that global import restrictions reached the maximum level.
