Plant Imports to Russia Exceeded Half a Billion Dollars
Plants in the value of USD 508.5 mln were imported to Russia from January to November last year, according to SeaNews. Compared to the same period the year before last, this figure decreased by 8.2%.
Cut flowers and buds account for the largest part of imports. During this period, imports amounted to 1.9 billion pieces in the value of almost USD 291 mln (decrease by 15.6%). The assortment consists mainly of roses and chrysanthemums, as well as carnations, lilies and orchids. The main supplier countries are Belarus, the Netherlands and Ecuador – in total, flowers were imported from 64 countries.
Imports of bulbs, tubers, and rhizomes increased by 12.9% to USD 33.3 mln during the first 11 months of last year. Imports of other live plants, with the exception of fresh Christmas trees, increased by almost 4% and amounted to USD 171.2 mln.
The main suppliers were the same countries, and in total live plants were imported from 80 countries, including Italy, Poland and Kenya. It was reported earlier that this East African country is ready to launch direct supplies of flowers to Russia.
