Russia Boosts Imports of Palm and Palm Kernel Oil
In January, the import of palm oil and its fractions to Russia increased by 4.2 per cent as compared with the same period of the last year, according to the materials of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). In physical terms the imports amounted to 78,400 tons.
Imports of coconut (copra), palm kernel and babassu oil and their fractions increased in January by nearly 44 per cent, to 7,300 tons. While imports of sunflower oil, safflower or cotton oil, and their fractions decreased in the said month by nearly 90 per cent (to 100 tons).
In the first month of the year, 9,700 tons of butter were imported to our country, representing a 19.3 per cent growth. Imports of poultry meat increased by 3.3 per cent, to 16,200 tons, while imports of fish increased by 8.2 per cent exceeding 35,000 tons.
In January-February retail trade turnover in Russia increased by 3.7 per cent in comparable prices as compared with the same period of the last year, and amounted to more than 5.252 trillion rubles. Furthermore, in February this year retail trade turnover showed a year-on-year increase of 4.7 per cent, almost to 2.62 trillion rubles. It is to be recalled that, as previously reported, the “Green Corridor” is being introduced for importers.
