Russia is Ready to Implement Infrastructure Projects in Bolivia
Russian companies may join various infrastructure projects in the Plurinational State of Bolivia. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this after talks with his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales.
The statement of the Russian leader referred to the expansion of the international airport in the city of Santa Cruz, followed by deployment of a large logistics centre, as well as the project to build an interoceanic railway corridor. For Bolivia, the task of accessing the sea and creating such a corridor is of particular national importance, emphasised Evo Morales, President of this South American country.
Energy has become another important area of bilateral cooperation. For instance, Gazprom is actively involved in the Bolivian market. The Company has invested about five hundred million dollars in the oil and gas sector of this Latin American country and is developing local fields.
There is a strong potential for cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. Rosatom is about to complete the construction of the Bolivian Centre for Nuclear Research and Technology. The nuclear reactor will be located at an altitude of about four thousand metres above sea level, for the first time in the world practice.
Moreover, Russian cars are in demand in the Bolivian market. Russian enterprises will participate in the implementation of the Bolivian programme to convert the fleet of lorry and passenger transport to fuel gas. As we have already reported, last month, Bolivia received Russian air navigation equipment.
