Russian Companies Upgrade Cuba’s Energy Industry
According to the website of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, following a meeting between Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin and Minister of Energy and Mining of Cuba Raúl García Barreiro, Russia and Cuba will develop their cooperation in the energy sector. The representatives of Zarubezhneft, Inter RAO – Export, and Power Machines also participated in the negotiations.
As noted, the parties discussed the development of a programme to upgrade Cuba’s fuel and energy complex, in addition to joint projects. Earlier this year, a joint working group was established to develop Cuba’s energy sector. The parties also signed a roadmap for cooperation in the energy sector for the near future.
Late last year, it was reported that Gazprom Energoholding is developing a project for the construction of a 600 MW thermal power plant in Cuba. Inter RAO also implements projects in the field of energy in the country and successfully fulfils contractual obligations to build four power units at the Maximo Gomez and East Havana TPPs, which cost about EUR 1.2 billion.
Zarubezhneft and Cuba Petróleo have signed a memorandum on the development of geological resources and prospects for the production of bituminous and bitumen oil in the north of the island. In addition, we recall that there will be more Russian-made cars in Cuba.
