ZapSibNeftekhim set to export polyethylene to China

SIBUR Holding and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) have signed an industry cooperation agreement that will cover activities in China, Russia, and other countries, according to a statement from the press center of Russia’s largest petrochemical company. Specifically, an agreement was reached to distribute polyethylene produced by ZapSibNeftekhim to China.

The holding has completed the construction of a petrochemical complex in Tobolsk and has begun the launch and debugging stage at the new facility. The parties also agreed to cooperate on the processing of natural gas into petrochemical products in Russia and China, R&D, and personnel training to facilitate the exchange of professional skills and knowledge.

ZapSibNeftekhim will operate the largest modern petrochemical production facility in Russia. The project envisions the construction of a pyrolysis plant with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tons of ethylene, some 500,000 tons of propylene and 100,000 tons of butane-butylene fraction, as well as plants for the production of various types of polyethylene. In its basic configuration, the new complex is estimated to cost USD 9.5 billion.

SIBUR manufactures products for nearly 1,500 customers in the fuel and energy sector, the automotive industry, construction, consumer goods production, chemical, and other industries in 75 countries around the world. It was previously reported that the leading Russian polymer producer, KazanOrgSynthesis, has, for the first time, started selling products in South America, including in such countries as Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil.
